Rihanna Speaks Out to Diane Sawyer, ABC EXCLUSIVE - ABC News

Some say it's because she has an album to promote. Some say it's because she wanted to finally have her say about the situation. Well, whatever the reason Rihanna has finally broken her silence about the abuse she suffered at the hands of Chris Brown. The interview with ABC's Diane sawyer has sparked a lot of controversy. I personally think she was very brave and elegant and was surprised that she admitted she finally left due to her social responsibility--realizing that she might be putting the lives of other young, abused women in jeopardy if she sent the message that it was okay to stay. So for that, I don't care if she finally chose to speak out in an effort to promote her album. After all, with the release of her album and the accompanying public appearances people were bound to ask about it so it seems smart to me to just get it over with already. What is important and impressive is that she realizes the power of her platform and seems to be stepping up to the plate by being a responsible celebrity. Now, hopefully, young women who find themselves in abusive relationships have a point of reference: hopefully they will not be afraid to ask for help; hopefully they will take a clue from Rihanna and wall the hell away!! Abuse to women is a monumental problem in our society and now it seems it has a new spokesperson. God does work in mysterious ways.

Check out the interview below (if you haven't already) and let me know what you think.
