Total Eclipse of the Heart

As I'm sure you all know by now there was lunar eclipse on Wednesday. It's a rare and beautiful thing and I am so glad I was able to see it, thanks to my twelve year old daughter. She convinced me to go with her on our fire escape so we could see it in all of it's glory. My daughter's name is Skye, so I guess it's fitting that she was the catalyst for the evening's highlight which included the following: we looked up, took it in, smiled, took a few pictures, said a few prayers, and made a few wishes upon a few stars.

It was fun and it made me think of an old pop/rock song from the 80's, "Total Eclipse of The Heart." It's by a singer whose name I can't recall, a blond woman with big hair (well, most blond women had big hair in the 80's) and a really raspy voice. I know my 80's babies know the song; it was a big hit back in the day. Suffice it to say, the song came to mind as I was looking up at the February moon. My heart is going though a total eclipse! Seriously!!! This time last year I was so in love and almost sure that I had found The One. Now, this year, not so much.

The song was a lament to lost love and the lyrics went something like "Once upon a time I was falling in love/Now I'm only falling apart/Nothing I can say/Total eclipse of the heart." Thankfully, I'm not falling apart (I don't have the time this time around), rather I find that I'm flip flopping. One minute I'm at peace with my decision(it's all for the best, I learned a lot, at least I only wasted a year, it wasn't all bad, etc., etc.) the next minute I'm mad ('I know I told you to leave me alone but how dare you actually listen. Oh now you wanna do what I say!!!', etc., etc.) One minute I'm listening to my girl Jill Scott's uplifting songs like "One is The Magic Number", "Slowly Surely" and "I Keep/Still" the next minute I'm blasting Kelis' "I Hate You So Much Right Now" (thanks to a tip from one of this blogger's readers. It does release stress! See, I do read your comments).

The good thing about eclipses are, they signify transformation and change. Universal change. Unique change. I mean, these things are so rare, these Total Lunar Eclipses, and somehow I find it comforting that I got to experience it. Somehow I know the universe is supporting my decision ( no matter how difficult) to make a change, to move on, to let go. Ultimately, though, I know the universe has something much better in store for me, for you, for us all. I'm talking health wise, money wise, wisdom wise (hee-hee), and men wise. I can feel it! Can't you?

Sounds like a beautiful evening with Skye! I see Jewel gave you the artist. That song was one of my favorites back and then and still is. One of my favorite karaoke songs to do especially.
