Whitney Houston: The "He's Gone... You're Back! Hero" of 2009

It took a minute ( almost ten years, actually) but super songstress Whitney Houston has finally released a new album!!! I haven't heard it yet but I'm sure it's great. But you know what? Even if it sucks I wouldn't give f--k! All I care about is that sister girl has pulled it together and is doing her thing--singing her songs again. She's even gloriously gracing the cover of this months Ebony Magazine.

And it is so good to see her shining! Because--admit it--for a minute there we were all a little worried about Whitney--whether she would (or could!) sing again, whether she would stop using drugs (because "crack is whack"), whether she would get a hold of her teenage daughter, and whether she would finally, mercifully let bad boy Bobby Brown go on about his business. Thankfully, she has and in doing so presents herself as proof positive that sometimes, no matter how much you love a man who is clearly no good for you, you have to love yourself enough to save yourself. You have to know when to let go. Which is why I must crown Whitney Houston The "He's Gone...You're Back! Hero" of 2009.

I am honored and excited to do it here on my blog because in my book I list some of my "He's Gone..You're Back! Heroes" (pgs.112-113). They include Halle Berry, Valerie Bertinelli, Vanessa Williams and Nicole Kidman because of the classy, admirable way they handled very humiliating, very public breakups and bounced back better than ever.

I did not include Whitney on the list because when I was writing the book, things were still a bit up in the air with her situation; she and Bobby had broken up but only God knew if it was really gonna stick! Well, now the jury's out and it's clear she has had the strength and the sense to realize that she is waaay better off without him. Not to say that she does not have to take full responsibility for letting her life spin out of control. Just pointing out that sometimes it's much harder to pull it back together when you are in a seriously toxic relationship.

The release of her new album is clearly a new beginning for her and I wish her all the luck and love in the world. I know it wasn't easy but she got it together, got rid of Mr. Wrong and got on with her life. And for that she is hereby crowned The "He's Gone...You're Back! Hero" of 2009! Can I get an amen somebody?

I really was worried for a minute. She looked good on Oprah, though and I'm so glad she was honest and open about so much stuff. I think that she is going to be fine.

She does look great on the Ebony cover and her on her album cover, too. Black don't crack!

No black don't crack even though her voice did crack when she sang live at Central Park. It was embarrassing. Her voice is not the same. She has come back but her voice hasn't, not really.

yeah she did sound bad but like Kerika said this album is significant because she is back out there doing her thing. It had to take alot of courage. he voice cracking was embarrasing but not as embarrasing as that realitiy tv show she did with Bobby where she was looking all crazy and all those busted pictures of her when they were togther. I think she deserves some credit for being courageous.

She does deserve credit for being courageous that's why she's the "He's Gone...You're Back!" hero of 2009.
